Session 40 - Data Integration Presentation

Location:  Pontchartrain  E

Moderator - Tom Palmerlee    tparmel@nas.edu
Four TRB Committees are organized a Peer Exchange in March, 2001 of state and metropolitan planning organization data and information technology professionals to present the their current practice in integrating highway information for sources within a DOT and among governments.  These examples were used to develop a set of principles for integrating highway information.

For the purposes of this peer exchange, the participants developed the following definition of data integration;” coordination and sharing of inputs, processes, and outputs of systems; dynamically linking systems where data is consistent and easily accessed, displayed, and transferred between systems thereby creating valuable information for stakeholders and business decision making processes.”   This session summarizes some of the actual integration efforts in state departments of transportation and the principles and success factors that participants identified.
