M.S.,
J.D., Assistant Director, WI DOT-Bureau of Transportation Safety
EMS and other health care data (Emergency
Department, Hospital Inpatient, Clinic, Rehabilitation, Vital Records, etc.) can
be used in quality assurance of crash data, for factor analysis of costs and
medical outcomes of crashes, and for detailed studies of types of crashes and
injuries. These data are particularly valuable in this time of heightened
interest in coordinated datasets for counteracting bioterrorism.

Crash Location Techniques and Spatial Analyses
Location - Coronado M
Moderator – Sandy Johnson,
Consultant, NAGHSR/NHTSA
More
than 80 percent of government information is location-based. Technologies for
assigning accurate locations to crash events are becoming cheaper and more
available at the same time that integration of public safety data is becoming a
high government priority. Entering crash data into a geographic information
system (GIS) populated with a wide variety of other information provides highway
safety analysts with a powerful analytical tool.

Transportation Safety
Discusses activities of Safe Community
Programs. Safe Communities activities are driven by decisions made by local
coalitions. These decisions should be driven by local data and the activities
selected should be evaluated carefully to determine whether they are the most
effective use of local resources rather than the most popular, "feel-good"
activities.
