The Role of Crash Surveillance and Program
Evaluation: NYSDOT's Skid Accident Reduction Program (Skarp) Jonathan S. Bray is Director of NYSDOT’s Safety Management System. He received his B.A. and M.A. for Ohio State University and began in employment with NYSDOT’s Planning Division in 1974. He has since served in a number of administrative and technical capacities. Since joining the Traffic Engineering and Safety Division in 1983, he has managed the Department’s Safety Investigation Program, Highway Safety Evaluation Program, and Safety Capital Program. Mr. Bray is the architect of the Safer Infrastructure Program for which NYSDOT was awarded the Federal highway Administration’s 1991 Biennial Safety Award for Program Planning, Development, and Evaluation. He was also awarded AASHTO’s 1996 President’s award for Traffic Engineering and Safety for is contribution to the development of NYSDOT’s Safety Goal and Performance Measures. He is the lead person for NYSDOT’s Road Safety Audit Pilot, The Safety Appurtenance Program, an initiative designated to ensure that highway safety considerations are incorporated in NYSDOT’s simple resurfacing projects. |
