Agenda Goals:

The Division of Traffic Safety continues to develop policies and programs that are dedicated to the improvement of highway safety. The Illinois Mobile Capture Reporting (MCR) system specifically addresses the following National Safety Council's national agenda. Goal I: To instill an appreciation of the value of highway safety information systems among state, national, and local leaders who have a responsibility for developing and managing highway transportation safety policy. Goal II: To establish a means by which collection, management, and use of highway safety information could be coordinated among all arganizations at all jurisdictional levels with responsibility for highway transportation policy. Goal III: To integrate the planning of highway safety programs and highway safety information systems. Goal IV: To provide managers and users of highway safety information iwth the resources needed to select appropriate technology to support their information needs. Goal VI: To establish and promote technical standards for characteristics of highway safety information systems that are critical to the development and management of highway transportation safety programs and policies.

Narrative:

The major goal of MCR is to leverage the use of available technology to improve the quality, accuracy and timeliness of crash reporting and reduce the time, effort and cost required by law enforcement and IDOT personnel. Ultimately, MCR places crash data into the hands of highway safety improvement decsion makers in real time.

Meet Benefits:

Early indications have shown that MCR will meet or exceed all project goals and objectives. Initially, IDOT felt our first hurdle in the "rollout" phase would be a marketing problem, however due to the overwhelming demand IDOT's biggest gurdle will be from a supporting perspective.
