I don’t see any issue with adding a definition for commercial motor vehicles as long as we are not reinventing the wheel. There are too many instances when different agencies/states/entities create their own definition of what it means. We need to adopt the most widely used definition that is already in existence- which, in my opinion, should come from the Fed. Title 49 book so that the thousands of NASTI certified individuals can stay with a definition that the already know, since most of the time these are the people reporting the crashes for CMV’s. I don’t feel we need to have a definition of “non-commercial” to keep things simple – either it would fit the definition of “commercial” or not, if not it is understood to be Non-Commercial.
