D16 has light (<10k lb) / medium (10k to 26k lb) / heavy (> 26k lb) GVWR categories for trucks. This differes form the federal rules definitions for truch weight categoriartions (49 CFR 383.91, 49 CFR 350.105 and 49 CFR 390.5) and the federal rules arent consistent.

– Rule 390.5 is a general definiiton. It only categorizes the weight as < or > 10k.

– Rule 350.105 is for MCSAP. It only categorizes the weight as < or > 10k.

– Rule 383.91 is the only one with a 26k category, however it then sub divides this category based on the weight of the trailer. Rule 383.91 is for classifying CMV driving privelreges, so may not be that pertinent to D16.

Is the 26k category needed? If its needed then may need to split the 26k category into ‘26k with trailer > 10k’ and ‘26k with no trailer > 10k’. If its not needed, then the 26k category could be collapsed into the > 10k category.
