3.18 Classification by Special Use/Function
Some discussion has arisen regarding this classification, with regard to ride-hailing vehicles involved in crashes. At what point, is the “special function” classification used? If the driver is “off-duty” does this classification apply? If the driver is on-duty, but without a passenger at the time of the crash, does this classification apply?
With a vehicle used as an ambulance, for example, is it the configuration of the vehicle that is important to note on the crash report? How about a take-home police vehicle, not being used as a police vehicle at the time of the crash?
